Illustration & Paint 2009–2012
Pencil, watercolour, oil paint, Crayola crayon. Before I was a designer I was a kid who drew constantly. One of these ended up in the Hamilton Spectator.

- Pencil, Watercolour, Oil paint, Monami pen

I wanted to be a children's book illustrator when I grew up. These are from that era: high school art classes, experiments with whatever materials I could get my hands on, pencil and watercolour and oil and a Monami pen I had no business being that patient with. One sketch made it into the Hamilton Spectator before I'd ever touched a computer for design, back when the only feedback loop was whether a piece looked right under a desk lamp.
The Monami pen one near the bottom is still the piece I'm most proud of making with my own hands: no software, no undo button, just however many hours it took.
